Brian Parkinson is Professor of Social Psychology in the Medical Sciences Division at the University of Oxford. Holder of a PhD in Psychology from the University of Manchester, before his present appointment he worked in a number of UK universities including Liverpool, Sheffield, Leicester and Brunel. His research focuses on the social psychology of emotion, facial expression, interpersonal emotion regulation and interpersonal affect transfer. A tenet of his work is that the emotions configure our relationships with other people and regulate their orientations towards objects and events. His latest book, Heart to Heart: How Your Emotions Affect Other People, was selected as one of the Outstanding Academic Titles of 2020 by Choice, the magazine of the American Library Association. Co-editor of the book series Studies in Emotion and Social Interaction (Cambridge University Press and Editions de la Maison des Sciences de l’Homme), he has also served as associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing and as chief editor of the British Journal of Social Psychology.
