Manuel Arellano holds a degree in economic sciences from the University of Barcelona, and a PhD from the London School of Economics. He returned to the LSE as a faculty member between 1989 and 1992, after lecturing at the University of Oxford from 1985 to 1989. He is currently Professor of Economics at the Center for Monetary and Financial Studies (CEMFI) of Banco de España. A former editor of the Review of Economic Studies and co-editor of the Journal of Applied Econometrics, he has also co-chaired the World Congress of the Econometric Society and is a past president of the Econometric Society, the European Economic Association and the Spanish Economic Association (AEE), as well as serving until 2021 on the ERC Scientific Council. Manuel Arellano has published extensively on topics relating to econometrics, labor economics and the analysis of panel data, and in 2018 was named a Clarivate Citation Laureate in Economics.
