Rik Leemans heads the Environmental Systems Analysis group at Wageningen University & Research. He leads interdisciplinary global-change research projects and contributes to international science-policy assessments, like the IPCC and the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). He has modeled boreal forest dynamics at Uppsala University (Sweden) and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (Austria). He is currently engaged in the development of transdisciplinary approaches to deal with global change and sustainability. Author of numerous papers on ecosystem dynamics, ecosystem services, biodiversity, climate and global change, vulnerability and sustainability, he participated in the 4th IPCC Report, awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, and the Millennium Ecosystems Assessment, distinguished with the Zayed Prize.
